If you’re curious about the potential for a Blue Bloods spinoff, you’re not alone. Abigail Hawk, who plays Detective Abigail Baker on the show, recently dropped a significant hint about what the future might hold for the franchise.
“There was talk of a spinoff happening,” Hawk revealed to Hello! Magazine on October 23. “But if it did happen immediately after our series ends, it would need to be set in L.A. or follow a different family entirely, without involving the Reagans or the NYPD.”
The idea of a Blue Bloods spinoff set in Los Angeles is certainly a departure from the New York-based drama centered around the Reagan family, led by Tom Selleck. However, CBS has yet to make any official announcements regarding a spinoff.
With Season 14 confirmed as the series’ final season, both cast members and fans have expressed disappointment. Many are still hopeful that CBS might reconsider its cancellation and grant the show a 15th season, or that another network might pick it up. Hawk, however, seems to think that option is unlikely.
“I don’t think there’s a possibility of it going to another network. I know there’s been some chatter about that, but based on discussions with the cast and producers, I don’t think that’s a viable option,” she said.
Still, Hawk emphasizes the importance of maintaining hope. “Hope floats, and I think it’s essential to have something to cling to. We would all drop everything to make that happen,” she continued. “At the end of the day, CBS can do whatever they want, but I hope they realize not only how commercially viable Blue Bloods is but also how beloved it is and the staying power it has. Family is universal, and there are more stories to be told.”
Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, echoed similar sentiments during an interview with TV Insider on October 17. “There’s been a lot of talk about various spinoff concepts. Personally, I would be excited for anything that continues in the spirit of Blue Bloods and captures the care we tried to put into the show every week,” he said. “I’ve heard ideas ranging from prequels to sequels. For me, I love the show and have enjoyed working on it for 14 years. Whatever comes next, as long as it focuses on family and maintains the essence of Blue Bloods, I’m all for it.”
Wahlberg added, “I’m looking forward to watching the final episodes with all of our incredible fans and tweeting with them every Friday night. After that, we’ll see what happens. Spinoffs or sequels—it’s all good to me. There are millions of people who love this show and want it to continue in some way. If we can find a way to extend the Blue Bloods universe, then great. Right now, my priority is enjoying the final eight episodes with the fans.”
As the final season unfolds, the hopes for a potential spinoff remain alive, showcasing the lasting impact Blue Bloods has had on its audience and its dedicated cast.
