Donnie Wahlberg is filled with gratitude as he approaches the end of Blue Bloods, where he has portrayed Danny Reagan for 14 memorable seasons. Now airing its final season on Fridays on CBS, Wahlberg recently visited the TV Insider office to browse through TV Guide Magazine’s special Blue Bloods farewell issue.
In a heartfelt video interview, Wahlberg reflects on his childhood admiration for TV Guide Magazine, recalling how he once longed for it but couldn’t afford it. “There are moments in life when something happens that just puts your life into perspective, not just your work or your career,” he shares. “This final episode of Blue Bloods — and this! I remember going into grocery stores with my mom as a little kid and seeing the TV Guide at the checkout counter, wanting to get one but we couldn’t afford it. Now, I’m on the cover of a special edition, and it’s something that I worked on. I’m next to the guy from Magnum P.I., who I grew up watching.”
Wahlberg continues, “It puts not only the show in perspective but also how fortunate we all are on the show. I’m sure everyone in the cast and crew worked a good part of their lives to be part of something this successful. To see this and know how much it means to so many people around the country and the world, from that little kid who couldn’t even read about Magnum P.I. because we couldn’t afford the TV Guide to now being on the cover next to him while playing his son for 14 years — I dreamed big as a kid, but this is beyond what I could have ever imagined.”
He emphasizes his appreciation for the journey, stating, “I’m very grateful for the journey, and I’m not sad that it’s coming to an end. I’m just incredibly grateful.”
Wahlberg is featured on another Blue Bloods TV Guide Magazine cover alongside costar Marisa Ramirez, highlighting their characters, Danny and Baez. He expresses how meaningful it is to see Ramirez on her first cover. “This meant a lot to see her on the cover because so many characters make the show better. It’s not just the Reagans,” he explains. “Marisa worked tirelessly, as did many of the other cast members. She doesn’t just represent herself on this cover; she represents the rest of the cast.”
During his visit, Wahlberg also signed copies of Blue Bloods: The Special Farewell Edition, which will be given away to fans. Five lucky winners, chosen at random from participants who score perfectly on the quiz, will receive a copy. The quiz is available now through November 13 at 11:59 PM ET and consists of 18 questions, one for each episode of the final season, including multiple-choice and true-or-false prompts. Good luck to all participants!
