Donnie Wahlberg Calls Blue Bloods Fans ‘Family’ and Demands Proper Sendoff!

CBS Announces Blue Bloods Season 14 Renewal Amid Cast Pay Cuts

CBS confirmed in March that Blue Bloods will return for a 14th season, a decision that came with the cast agreeing to a 25 percent pay cut moving forward.

Donnie Wahlberg, who plays Danny Reagan, expressed his desire for Blue Bloods fans to receive the proper ending they deserve. Before the renewal was announced, he shared concerns with PEOPLE about the potential for the series to be canceled without a satisfying conclusion. “I love Blue Bloods, and I think if there weren’t a season 14, the loyal fans of the show would be very, very outraged,” he said, emphasizing the connection between the audience and the Reagan family.

Wahlberg noted, “If the show were to go away without [the audience] having a proper sendoff… I think they would be mortified.” He felt confident there would be at least another season.

At that time, Wahlberg mentioned that they were still finalizing the renewal deal. Ultimately, Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter reported that the entire cast, along with the producing team, agreed to the pay cut to ensure the show’s continuation.

Tom Selleck, who portrays the Reagan family patriarch, also weighed in on the future of the series, suggesting, “I don’t think there is an end point.”

Blue Bloods, which premiered in 2010, follows a multigenerational family of law enforcement officers and has garnered a dedicated fanbase. Alongside Wahlberg and Selleck, the cast includes Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez, and Vanessa Ray.

In addition to waiting for production on the new season, Wahlberg is gearing up for the return of Very Scary People, which he executive produces. He noted that his role on Blue Bloods helped establish his credibility as the host of the show, saying, “If it weren’t for Blue Bloods, I probably never would’ve done Very Scary People.”
