Sean Murray Reveals Uncertainty About NCIS’s Future—What’s Next!

NCIS Star Sean Murray Reflects on His Future with the Show, Admitting No Character Is Truly Safe

Sean Murray, who has portrayed Special Agent Timothy McGee on NCIS since 2003, recently opened up about his future on the show, hinting that no one’s role is guaranteed. Speaking to People, Murray acknowledged that despite his 21-year tenure, anything could happen on the long-running procedural. “We’ve seen over the years that no one is really safe,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed being part of this show immensely and am grateful to be here, but you never know what the future holds.”

Despite this element of uncertainty, Murray shared that the cast is currently enjoying a great time on set, with no one eager to make an exit. He also credited the show’s strong foundation, which he believes set it apart from other procedurals and allowed it to build a lasting bond with fans over the years.

As the NCIS universe continues to evolve, CBS is expanding the franchise with an exciting new series, NCIS: Origins, which will explore the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Mark Harmon will return to narrate the series, while Austin Stowell, Mariel Molino, and Kyle Schmid will take on the roles of younger versions of Gibbs, Lala Dominguez, and Mike Franks, respectively.

NCIS airs on CBS in the US, with Seasons 1-20 available for streaming on Disney+ in the UK. NCIS: Origins is currently in production and will be part of the franchise’s future offerings.
