This new addition to the NCIS universe features a dynamic team and delivers the dramatic twists and turns the franchise is known for. Despite its short, eight-episode run, Season 1 has laid the groundwork for numerous story arcs that promise to unfold in the next season.
The Season 1 finale took a dramatic turn when JD’s son was kidnapped by a fugitive in exchange for the release of the season’s villain, Ana Niemus. While previous episodes briefly mentioned JD’s son and his ongoing divorce, little was known about his family life until this event. The show’s focus on police work typically overshadows the personal lives of the agents, but by involving JD’s son in the case, the stakes were raised significantly.
In Season 2, I hope to see JD’s role in his family life expanded. The intense demands of being an NCIS Special Agent often leave little room for personal matters, but after the harrowing experience of his son’s kidnapping, it would be satisfying to watch JD make a greater effort to be present in Jack’s life. The guilt and emotional burden he felt during the finale made it clear just how much JD cares about his son, and it would be compelling to see him navigate the challenges of balancing his demanding job with his responsibilities as a father.
