NCIS: Hawai’i Star Sharif Atkins Snags New Role After Cancellation!

Sharif Atkins Looks Ahead: New Role on Apple TV+ After NCIS: Hawai’i Cancellation

Sharif Atkins is moving forward with his career following the cancellation of “NCIS: Hawai’i” by CBS just two months ago. Atkins, known for his role as Captain Norman “Boom Boom” Gates, will soon appear in a new Apple TV+ series titled “Me.” The upcoming sci-fi show is set to premiere on Friday, July 12. While details about Atkins’ role are scarce, he is listed as playing a character named Darren Kennedy.

“Me” centers around a 12-year-old boy named Ben navigating the challenges of middle school, including bullies, crushes, and school dances, while adjusting to a newly blended family and discovering he has superpowers. The show’s synopsis reveals that over the course of the 10-episode season, Ben embarks on a journey of self-discovery, learning what it truly means to have superpowers. He finds an ally in his stepsister, Max, who helps him harness these powers and uncover the secrets and tragedies of their community, all while Ben comes to terms with his identity.

This role in “Me” marks an exciting new chapter for Sharif Atkins following the cancellation of “NCIS: Hawai’i” in April. CBS executives cited the show’s performance and financial considerations as factors in their decision. “It is incumbent on us to always keep the schedule fresh, keep momentum going. We had to make some really tough choices this year,” explained CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach at a press briefing in Los Angeles.

The cancellation of “NCIS: Hawai’i” was met with shock and disappointment by its cast. Tori Anderson, who played FBI agent Kate Whistler, expressed her difficulty in processing the news on social media, thanking the crew and fans and lamenting the loss of representation. Vanessa Lachey, the first female lead in the NCIS franchise, also shared her heartbreak, feeling “gutted, confused, blindsided,” yet expressing gratitude to the fans and her confidence in their continued support.

Several other cast members have also secured new roles. Alex Tarrant, who played Kai Holman, is set to return to screens this summer in the second season of “The Lord of the Rings” spin-off, “The Rings of Power.” The New Zealand-born actor will reprise his role as Valandil, a character he played in the show’s first season. Tarrant recently shared the gripping trailer for season two on Instagram.

As Sharif Atkins takes on his new role in “Me,” fans eagerly anticipate his return to the screen and look forward to the exciting developments in his career.
