Disgusting medical videos are taking YouTube by storm! From pimple popping and cyst draining to earwax removal and foot callus scraping, there’s a massive audience for these clips.
The removal of tonsil stones—tiny, pebble-like formations that can be popped out of the tonsils—is no exception. It’s reminiscent of pimple popping, but this time it’s happening in the throat, and many find it oddly satisfying to watch.
For those unfamiliar, tonsils are part of your immune system, as noted by the Mayo Clinic. They produce white blood cells and antibodies to help fight infections, but they also contain deep cavities known as tonsillar crypts. In some people, these crypts are deep enough for bits of food or mucus to get trapped inside.
