Vanessa Ray Reveals Eddie & Jamie’s Big Decision in ‘Blue Bloods’ Family Dinner!

Jamie (Will Estes) and Eddie (Vanessa Ray) are ready to take a significant step in their lives: expanding their family!

The final eight episodes of Blue Bloods kicked off with Eddie forming a bond with a young girl whose mother was tragically murdered. In a touching moment, Eddie even brought the girl home while they awaited her grandmother’s arrival. This experience led Eddie to a realization—she doesn’t have to follow in her mother’s footsteps, prompting her and Jamie to discuss having a baby!

In a recent interview, Vanessa Ray shared her thoughts on this pivotal decision, filming the episode, and her feelings about saying goodbye to Blue Bloods.

“I really liked everything about Eddie’s interaction with the young girl. It allowed us to see a different side of Eddie while showcasing her professional role,” Vanessa explained. “This episode was beautifully written by Siobhan [Byrne O’Connor]. As a cast, we all appreciate those moments when our storylines intersect—what I call an ‘all skate.’ It was exciting to work with Donnie [Wahlberg], Marisa [Ramirez], and Bridget [Moynahan], who I don’t often get to share scenes with. The whole experience felt special, especially as I had just adopted our son, Isaac, and was adjusting to being a new mom myself.”

Vanessa continued, “Reading this story and witnessing Eddie’s journey was particularly meaningful. She’s expressed her fears about motherhood in the past, and seeing her embrace this side of herself was really powerful. It highlights how her professional life can positively impact her personal life.”

Reflecting on a touching moment in the episode, Vanessa noted, “The scene where the girl hugs Eddie goodbye was unscripted. That little girl was a joy to work with—so open and vulnerable. Her performance was essential; if we didn’t feel for her, the episode wouldn’t have resonated.”

As the episode concludes with Eddie and Jamie making plans to have a baby, Vanessa elaborated on what has shifted for Eddie to feel ready for motherhood. “Eddie’s growth throughout this experience is significant. By realizing she can carve her own path and be the mother she wants to be, rather than repeating her own mother’s mistakes, Eddie finds the confidence to take this next step with Jamie.”
