Sean Murray’s portrayal of Timothy McGee reveals a significant issue in NCIS Season 22 that may not have a clear resolution. Following the death of Ducky Mallard in season 21, all original members of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ team have exited the Major Case Response Team (MCRT). As a result, despite not being part of the inaugural cast, McGee has become the longest-serving character in the flagship series. Over his more than two decades on NCIS, McGee has transformed from a timid Probie into a confident Senior Field Agent.
Having experienced all iterations of the MCRT, McGee has witnessed numerous deaths and departures. He was even the last person Gibbs spoke to before his retirement in Alaska during season 19. Now, under Alden Parker’s leadership, McGee is Parker’s most dependable agent. His character development has also extended into his personal life, with McGee now married to Delilah and a father of two. While these aspects are positive, NCIS Season 22 exposes a concerning dilemma regarding McGee’s character and his future on the show, which unfortunately may not have a viable solution.
