Derek was frantic as he searched for his daughter, Amber, who had gone missing a week ago. Despite the police’s best efforts, it felt like she had vanished without a trace. Sleepless nights consumed him with fear and anxiety. At the police station, an officer reassured him, “As soon as we have any information, we’ll let you know,” but days went by with no new leads.
On his way home, Derek’s heart raced when he spotted a homeless woman carrying Amber’s distinctive backpack. Approaching her, he asked, “Where did you get that?” She replied, “I found it at the bus station. Some teenage girl left it behind.” Derek’s pulse quickened as he rifled through the backpack, discovering a folded piece of paper with an address labeled “Hostess Family.” Without hesitation, he jumped in his car and drove to the address.
When he arrived, a woman at the door confirmed that Amber had never made it there. Feeling defeated, Derek decided to head home. However, on his way back, he noticed his ex-wife, Miranda, sitting in a café. A glimmer of hope sparked within him; perhaps Amber had gone to see her mother. He approached Miranda, but she initially denied knowing anything about Amber’s whereabouts.
Just as Derek was about to leave, he spotted Amber’s inhaler in Miranda’s bag, prompting him to confront her. Under the pressure of the evidence, Miranda reluctantly confessed that Amber had come to see her.
Before Derek could process this information, Amber overheard their conversation and bolted out of the café. Panic surged through him as he chased after her, finally finding her sobbing on a nearby bench.
“Dad, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to worry you,” Amber cried, her eyes filled with regret. Derek knelt beside her, wrapping her in a tight embrace. “It’s okay, sweetheart. I understand you wanted to see your mom, but you’re grounded for two weeks,” he said, attempting to lighten the mood.
Amber managed a small smile, feeling the warmth of safety and love surround her once again.
