Tom Selleck Reveals What He Misses Most About ‘Blue Bloods’—You Won’t Believe It!

Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, and the Blue Bloods cast gathered at The Paley Center for Media to discuss the final season of the beloved CBS series, which recently premiered the first of its last eight episodes. The event honored the long-running police/family drama, featuring cast members Tom Selleck (Frank Reagan), Donnie Wahlberg (Danny Reagan), Bridget Moynahan (Erin Reagan-Boyle), Vanessa Ray (Eddie Janko), Len Cariou (Henry Reagan), Marisa Ramirez (Maria Baez), and showrunner Kevin Wade.

Selleck reflected on the series’ success, sharing that they were initially slated for just ten episodes in season 14. “It kind of helped that we were the No. 6 show out of 100 broadcast shows,” he noted. “These eight shows are a celebration, a way for CBS to commemorate our journey together.”

Despite the acclaim, Selleck admitted he was disheartened when he learned the series was being canceled. Even with the cast and producers advocating for its continuation, CBS remained firm in their decision to end the show.

“I hope what the audience takes away is that it’s a show worthy of an appointment,” Selleck expressed. “I have great faith in broadcast television. It has suffered from being relegated to second or third place. Not everyone wants to spend an hour scrolling through their remote looking for something to watch. I’m proud that we became appointment TV.”

From its inception, Blue Bloods filled the challenging 10 p.m. Friday night time slot, quickly capturing viewers’ attention and consistently winning its slot.

“We became an appointment show, and then recording technology changed that to, ‘I’m tired, so I’ll see it in the morning,’” Selleck added. “That’s rare. Ultimately, it reflects the work we put into it. It’s a significant compliment when audiences are invested in the story, sitting back with their beers, thinking, ‘He’s not going to die. They won’t end the series.’”
