Mark Harmon’s NCIS Prequel to Include Another Beloved Character—Find Out Who!

Spoilers ahead for NCIS fans!

Excitement is building for the upcoming prequel series, NCIS: Origins, which will delve into the early days of Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon. Slated to premiere in the 2024/25 TV season, the show has been given a straight-to-series order by CBS and will explore Gibbs’s beginnings as a special agent.

As reported by TVLine, NCIS: Origins will also reintroduce a beloved character from the original series: Vera Strickland, portrayed by Roma Maffia. Strickland, who was a key character in Season 11 as the partner of the late Mike Franks, will be joined by a younger version of Franks in the prequel.

Set in 1991, the series will focus on Gibbs’s early days at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office, working under the mentorship of Mike Franks. Mark Harmon, who stepped away from the franchise in 2021, will narrate and executive produce the series alongside his son, Sean Harmon. Sean, who previously played young Gibbs, is thrilled to revisit Gibbs’s origins and collaborate with his father once more.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, expressed her excitement about expanding the NCIS universe. She promises that the prequel will provide a deeper look into Gibbs’s backstory and reintroduce cherished characters.

While a release date for NCIS: Origins has yet to be announced, fans can continue to enjoy the original NCIS series on CBS in the US, with Seasons 1-20 available for streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
