In Monday night’s NCIS midseason premiere, “Pledge of Allegiance,” Leroy Jethro Gibbs’s influence was felt even from afar. Though Gibbs was not physically present, his legacy was prominently featured throughout the episode.
The plot thickened as McGee (Sean Murray) and Palmer (Brian Dietzen) were baffled by an unexpected $10,000 deposit into their bank accounts. Meanwhile, Torres attempted to persuade Jimmy to spread the wealth, suggesting he buy drinks for everyone in celebration.
The twist came at the end of the episode when Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) called McGee and Palmer into his office after the Case of the Week was resolved. Anticipating trouble for keeping the mysterious funds, they were surprised by Vance’s revelation.
Vance explained that the money was part of the Leroy Jethro Gibbs College Scholarship Fund, which Gibbs had originally established for his daughter Kelly. Following her tragic death, Gibbs continued to support the fund, using it to assist the families of agents in need.
Overwhelmed by Gibbs’s generosity, McGee and Palmer expressed their hope to thank their former boss in person one day. Vance, smiling, suggested that they might have the chance to do so in the future.
The episode served as a poignant reminder of Gibbs’s lasting impact and the powerful legacy he continues to leave behind.
