Donnie Wahlberg’s Big Update: ‘Blue Bloods’ Is Far From Dead!

Donnie Wahlberg’s unwavering enthusiasm for Blue Bloods is a testament to his dedication to the series, despite CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach’s firm stance on the show’s conclusion. While Reisenbach has confirmed that Blue Bloods won’t be uncanceled like S.W.A.T., Wahlberg remains hopeful that the future holds more for the beloved procedural.

In a recent Instagram post shared by melissa.nkotb from a New Kids on the Block concert, Wahlberg was asked about Blue Bloods. “We filmed what seems to be the last season of Blue Bloods, which starts airing in October. There might be something else coming after that. I don’t have any official news, but discussions are happening. So, maybe something exciting will emerge,” Wahlberg said. He added, “You know I’ll be involved in projects beyond Blue Bloods no matter what.”

This optimism might hint at a potential Blue Bloods spinoff, especially considering earlier comments from Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins. Robbins mentioned that new franchise extensions for Blue Bloods, along with Dexter and Billions, are in the works. CBS Studios President David Stapf supported this notion, stating, “We don’t have immediate spinoff plans, but Blue Bloods is a cherished show. We need to get it right, so we’re taking our time to figure out the next iteration. We have a full season ahead to celebrate the show’s legacy, which gives us time to explore future possibilities.”

A spinoff focusing on Wahlberg’s character, Danny Reagan, could be a possibility. However, it would be intriguing if it included Tom Selleck (Frank Reagan) and other key members of the Reagan family like Erin (Bridget Moynahan) and Jamie (Will Estes). Another compelling idea for a spinoff could be centered on Detective Joe Hill (Will Hochman), Frank’s grandson. Joe, the son of Frank’s late son Joe Reagan, has become a standout cop despite his complicated family history. A series following Joe’s undercover work and challenging cases could provide fresh and exciting content, while still allowing for occasional appearances by the original Blue Bloods cast.

Blue Bloods will return for its final eight episodes of season 14 on October 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

Next up, CBS updates its fall premiere schedule, including NCIS, FBI, Blue Bloods, Tracker, The Equalizer, and more.
