Donnie Wahlberg remains optimistic about the future of Blue Bloods. In a July conversation with fans, Wahlberg hinted at the possibility of a franchise extension with CBS. While he admitted that he doesn’t “know anything officially,” he revealed that there are “things in the works,” sparking hope among fans.
Blue Bloods wrapped filming in July, with the final episodes of Season 14 (Part 2) set to air from October through December on Fridays on CBS. Wahlberg, speaking from what appeared to be the stage of a New Kids on the Block concert, responded to fan questions, including one about the show’s conclusion.
When asked about the final season, Wahlberg responded, “We filmed what seems to be the last season of Blue Bloods, and it’ll start airing in October. Maybe there’ll be something else after that. I don’t know anything officially yet, but there are things in the works. So, maybe something awesome will happen.”
Wahlberg delivered an emotional speech on the final day of filming the cop procedural, expressing his disbelief that the show might be ending. Recalling the uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic, he noted how the series had persevered through challenging times, making it hard for him to accept its potential conclusion.
“Four years ago, we were in this room, unsure if we would ever see each other again for much graver reasons. It was one of the worst days of my life, and I’m sure for many of you as well,” Wahlberg said in a video. “We didn’t know what the future held, and somehow we got a few more years together. God willing, we’ll have more time to create something magical again. I would be honored to work with any of you again, and I pray that it happens. I won’t give up trying. Let’s enjoy this night together; we’ve earned it.”
He also commended co-star Tom Selleck, praising his leadership over their 14 seasons together.
Wahlberg seems hopeful about continuing his role as Danny Reagan in the future. This raises the question: could he be interested in starring in a potential spinoff?
