Blue Bloods Cancellation Shocker: SNL’s Controversial Mention!

The announcement that Blue Bloods is coming to an end has shocked fans around the world, joining a list of unexpected show cancellations, including Saturday Night Live. On January 27, SNL’s cold open, themed around the AFC Championship, humorously lamented the loss of “real football” and poked fun at Blue Bloods, calling it “the No.1 drama in every dentist’s office.” The mock commentators expressed their disbelief when they learned that the series was indeed concluding, with one quipping, “Now they’re taking Blue Bloods from us, too?!” They even dismissed the idea of replacing it with the fictional drama So Help Me Todd.

Blue Bloods had been renewed for its 14th season in March, but the announcement of its final season came in December, adding to CBS’s list of farewells, which also includes S.W.A.T., Young Sheldon, and Bob Hearts Abishola. Fans can still look forward to more from the Reagan family, as Season 14 will be split into two parts: the first 10 episodes will air in the spring, with the final eight episodes scheduled for the fall.

Despite the remaining episodes, saying goodbye will be tough, as expressed by lead actor Tom Selleck’s reluctance to end the series. Excitement builds for the final season’s storylines, which are expected to be more dramatic than ever.

The new episodes of Season 14 will premiere on Friday, February 16, at 10 p.m. ET, as part of CBS’s 2024 spring lineup. There is speculation that cast members like Selleck or Donnie Wahlberg might make an appearance on SNL before the series wraps, reflecting the writers’ affection for the long-running show.
