NCIS Reunion: Mark Harmon’s Famous Co-Star You Forgot About!

Freaky Friday Couple Reunites on NCIS Before the Sequel Hits Screens

With over two decades on air, the NCIS franchise has often featured major guest stars in cameo roles, adhering to a successful tradition seen in many long-running shows. Throughout the years, the original series has seen characters come and go, with many side roles portrayed by Hollywood’s biggest stars. One such role paid homage to Mark Harmon’s famous movie from years ago, and the new character was a perfect match for Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ actor, though it didn’t last as long as his 2003 film.

In NCIS Season 9, Episode 16, titled “Psych Out,” Dr. Samantha Ryan, the head of the Department of Defense’s PsyOps Division, was introduced, portrayed by none other than Jamie Lee Curtis. Fans of 2000s comedies will quickly recognize the connection, as Curtis starred alongside Mark Harmon in the fantasy movie Freaky Friday, where the actors played a couple.

NCIS made it clear that there was a definite spark between Samantha and Gibbs as their teams collaborated on the same case. Curtis’ role extended beyond a few episodes, with her character becoming Gibbs’ love interest. The plot thickened when Samantha’s ex-husband was released from jail, forcing her to cut ties with NCIS, including Gibbs, leaving him alone once again.

Despite Jamie Lee Curtis’ exit from CBS’s police procedural franchise, fans can look forward to another on-screen reunion with Mark Harmon. The recently announced sequel, Freaky Friday 2, confirms that both actors will reprise their roles as the married couple Tess and Ryan. The movie is currently in the works and is scheduled for release sometime in 2025.
