NCIS Star Sean Murray Recalls On-Set Injury from Season 2 Car Wash Scene
Sean Murray, who has portrayed Special Agent Timothy McGee on NCIS since its first season, recently shared a story about an on-set injury from the show’s early days. During a chat with former co-stars Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo on their podcast, Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch, Murray recounted a painful incident that occurred while filming a car wash scene in Season 2.
Reflecting on the moment, Murray explained that while running through a working car wash in pursuit of a suspect, he slipped and fell, landing on his hand. The fall resulted in “very limited mobility” in his right thumb, an injury that still affects him today. “I know, running through that car wash, which I did many times and was a real car wash. I remember taking a sharp right… I take a sharp right, my dress shoes come out right from under me because I’m sprinting. I come down on my right hand. And, you know, like a lot of us actor types, we jump up, we just keep doing our thing. We don’t even really notice what we do until afterwards,” Murray recalled.
Despite the injury, Murray continued to film, demonstrating his dedication and resilience. Fortunately, the injury didn’t end his career; he has completed 20 seasons of NCIS and is gearing up for the 22nd. Laughing as he told the story, it’s clear the experience didn’t traumatize him too much, although he might avoid car washes for a while.
Injuries are an unfortunate reality on action-packed shows like NCIS, but Murray’s professionalism and ability to handle such incidents contribute to the series’ ongoing success. Fans can look forward to more thrilling episodes and stunts, knowing that even unplanned moments add to the show’s excitement.
