Sharif Atkins is looking ahead to new opportunities following the cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i by CBS just two months ago. The actor, known for his role as Captain Norman ‘Boom Boom’ Gates, is set to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ series, Me, premiering on Friday, July 12. In this sci-fi series, Sharif Atkins will portray Darren Kennedy, although details about his character remain scarce.
“Me” centers around Ben, a 12-year-old navigating the challenges of middle school while grappling with the discovery of his superpowers amidst adapting to a blended family dynamic. Over the course of its 10-episode season, the show explores Ben’s journey of self-discovery, aided by his stepsister Max, as they uncover community mysteries and come to terms with the responsibilities of possessing superhuman abilities.
Following the cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i in April, CBS executives cited the show’s performance and financial considerations as factors in their decision. “It is incumbent on us to always keep the schedule fresh, keep momentum going. We had to make some really tough choices this year,” said CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach.
In response to the news, cast members of NCIS: Hawai’i expressed shock and gratitude to fans on social media. Tori Anderson, who portrayed FBI agent Kate Whistler, reflected on her time on the show and thanked the crew and fans for their support. Vanessa Lachey, the series’ pioneering female lead, shared her mixed emotions about the cancellation but expressed love and gratitude towards the show’s supporters.
Sharif Atkins joins other cast members in moving on to new projects, such as Alex Tarrant, who is set to return in the second season of The Lord of the Rings spin-off, The Rings of Power, reprising his role as Valandil.
