As NCIS gears up for its 22nd season, fans are abuzz with speculation about potential changes in the team lineup. With Agent Jessica Knight (portrayed by Katrina Law) accepting a promotion in the season 21 finale to become the new REACT chief training officer at Camp Pendleton, her departure leaves a vacancy to be filled. While adjusting to her new career path, the team will need someone to step into her role.
Given the recent cancellation of NCIS: Hawai’i, there’s speculation that Agent Sam Hanna (played by LL Cool J) could be the perfect candidate for the position. Sam, a longstanding member of NCIS: Los Angeles for all 14 seasons, has showcased his adaptability within the franchise. With no other projects on the horizon, LL Cool J could seamlessly transition into Jessica’s role.
However, such a move would mark a departure from the show’s tradition of having a female lead on the team. NCIS has consistently featured strong female leaders, including Caitlin “Kate” Todd (portrayed by Sasha Alexander), Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham), and most recently, Jessica Knight.
To maintain a strong female presence, another option could be to bring over Agent Jane Tennant (played by Vanessa Lachey) from NCIS: Hawai’i. With Agent Alden Parker (portrayed by Gary Cole) possibly needing time off due to injury, Jane could temporarily step in as the team leader. This would ensure both Sam Hanna’s expertise and a continued representation of strong female characters on the team.
Could two popular characters from NCIS: Hawai’i find a new home on NCIS? Fans eagerly await season 22 to see what unfolds.
