The fan-favorite NCIS agent will finally get justice.
CBS’s police procedural giant NCIS continues to expand its universe with more spinoff shows, and one of them may finally give fans what they’ve wanted for years.
The upcoming 10-episode series, titled NCIS: Tony & Ziva, is set to take a closer look at the lives of original characters Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David after they both left NCIS several seasons ago. With a focus on these two characters, the new series is likely to delve deeply into Ziva David’s background story, something the flagship show never fully explored.
Introduced in NCIS Season 3, Ziva David, portrayed by Cote de Pablo, brought a refreshing dynamic to the show with her compelling character. Ziva quickly proved her loyalty to the team, taking over Caitlin Todd’s duties after Todd was ironically shot by Ziva’s half-brother, Ari. Ziva avenged Todd by killing Ari just as he was about to shoot team leader Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
Throughout her seasons on the show, Ziva is depicted as an expert in her field, transitioning from a Mossad officer to an NCIS Special Agent at a young age. Her professional achievements often overshadow her personal drama, including her complicated relationship with her father and the overall tension within her family.
The original show clearly depicted Ziva’s romance with fellow NCIS agent Tony DiNozzo but left her family issues unresolved. Now, with a new series centered on her character, the franchise seems to be addressing this oversight. Cote de Pablo, who played Ziva, was vocal about her departure after Season 11, citing a lack of compelling storylines for her character.
Whether this new series is a response to de Pablo’s criticism or not, the franchise appears committed to rectifying past mistakes and giving Ziva David the attention and depth she deserves.
