In Monday night’s NCIS midseason premiere, titled “Pledge of Allegiance,” Leroy Jethro Gibbs may have been thousands of miles away, but his presence was felt throughout the episode.
McGee (Sean Murray) and Palmer (Brian Dietzen) were mystified by the sudden appearance of $10,000 in their bank accounts. Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) suggested that Jimmy should use the money to treat everyone to drinks, adding a lighthearted twist to the mystery.
As the episode concluded, Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) asked McGee and Palmer to stay behind in his office after the Case of the Week was resolved. Expecting to be reprimanded for keeping the mysterious money, they were instead met with a heartwarming revelation from Vance.
Vance explained that the deposits were part of the Leroy Jethro Gibbs College Scholarship Fund, and welcomed McGee and Palmer as its newest beneficiaries. The fund, originally established by Gibbs for his daughter Kelly, continued to grow after her tragic passing, helping many agents’ families in need over the years.
Overwhelmed by Gibbs’ generosity, McGee and Palmer expressed their wish to thank their former boss in person someday. Vance, with a knowing smile, hinted that they might get the chance in the future.
The episode highlighted Gibbs’ enduring legacy and the profound impact he continues to have on his team, even from afar.
