NCIS: Sydney Set to Thrill in an Exciting Second Season
Fantastic news for NCIS enthusiasts: NCIS: Sydney is returning for a second season! Announced on Tuesday (March 19), the first international spin-off of the NCIS franchise will make its way back to CBS in the US and Paramount+ worldwide, as reported by Deadline.
The series centers on NCIS Special Agent Michelle Mackey, played by Olivia Swann, who teams up with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) to solve cases involving Americans abroad. The cast also features Home and Away star Todd Lasance as AFP agent JD Dempsey, Tuuli Narkle (Mystery Road: Origin) as AFP agent Evie Cooper, and former Neighbours star Mavournee Hazel as AFP forensic scientist Blue Gleeson.
Created by Morgan O’Neill of The Factory, NCIS: Sydney premiered last November and quickly became a critical and streaming hit. It was CBS’s top-rated new series last fall, drawing over 8 million viewers per episode across various platforms. O’Neill shared his excitement about the renewal: “We’re beyond thrilled with the response to the first season of the show, both in Australia and around the world, and that the team at NCIS: Sydney is returning for a second season. We’re particularly excited to invite our audience deeper into the lives of our core team, peeling back the layers to discover what really makes them tick.”
O’Neill added that the second season will explore the characters’ lives more deeply and test the bonds of their newfound family against a more formidable enemy. Earlier this year, cast member Todd Lasance expressed his hopes for the second season, telling TVLine, “I want [the finale’s big reveal] to come to fruition and for us to resolve all that, but I also want to dive back into the action sequences. I’m eager for shoot-outs, car chases, and large-scale action scenes because that’s what NCIS is known for.”
NCIS: Sydney is part of a broader expansion of the NCIS universe, with other projects in development, including a prequel about Mark Harmon’s Gibbs and a new series featuring classic characters Ziva and DiNozzo.
