NCIS investigators have confirmed that the bodies discovered in a wooded area of Osceola County belong to the missing couple, Claudia (Pena) Alvarez, 25, and Nicolas Alvarez, 23. The couple, who were reported missing earlier in the month, had last been seen on April 7 outside Pena’s mother’s home. Pena had picked up Alvarez from the airport the day prior, according to their family.
The remains were found on Saturday in a wooded area, following an investigation initiated by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office after the couple was reported missing to the Kissimmee Police Department. The discovery came after Pena’s 2009 Nissan Sentra was found at a nearby construction site on Friday morning. However, the exact location of the construction site has not been disclosed by the Sheriff’s Office.
While the Orange/Osceola Medical Examiner’s office had yet to formally identify the remains, Sheriff’s detectives had previously noted that some of the clothing found on the bodies matched that of the missing couple.
The circumstances surrounding the couple’s disappearance and subsequent demise remain unclear, and the Sheriff’s Office has not provided any information regarding whether it was a murder-suicide. However, they have stated that the incident appears to be isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public.
The Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with information related to the case to contact them at (407) 348-2222.
